Stuff to do with architecture

One of my favourite firms, based in Australia.

website

This is the melbourne recital center they designed, they have made a load of interesting stuff in Australia.

Stuff to look at

The news story

Basically a woman gets hit by a drunk driver. She goes flying, literally flies off 20m. Gets up with a bruised elbow and other minor injuries.

Stuff to listen too

James Blake

I only heard this recently, it's old and different to his newer stuff but it's good.

Stuff he makes now:

James Blake - Air & Lack Thereof by AMMtru

Little dragon

Little Dragon - Twice by Jekyll et Hyde

Think she has done a lot of work with gorillaz recently, but I haven't listened to any of it. This is good though.

Balloon music:

Weird. Danish producer, think this was released on Kraken Recordings

And finally, as APE is this weekend:

Stuff to look at

Some designer I found, I like this chair anyway.

His website.

Another chair, pretty good as well.

Full story.

Wolfgang Voigt

Found this german artist ( i think), does loads of mixed media stuff and acrylic things that are good.

His website.

Stuff I did measured drawing

Measured drawing, basically just drawing with a pen and using your arm at full stretch to make a more accurate drawing.

Continuous line drawing came first.

Not too bad, straw one took ages though, so I just freestyled it.

Measured drawing: not too bad easier, straw thing took so long though.

Stuff i did 3D Drawing

Basically had to some drawing of an object, but not draw the object, just draw something that the object had but didn't physically have ... kind of thing. Then, create a 3D drawing of those drawings that wasn't the actual object but had an essence of it - I think.

I was using my old gameboy (4 parts = 2 AA batteries, tetris game, gameboy itself), its purple and slightly transparent so you can see the inside of it. I went along the lines of: I can see all the wires and components inside when I pick it up, but I don't have a clue what any of them do. When I turn it on and begin playing a game this all become irrelevant. So I went along the lines of making something that made no sense when you looked at it, unless you put it together in a certain way and then when you achieved the correct orientation of the two objects, it made sense. If that makes sense.

It appears to say "off" when the objects are not a lined correctly, it is the only text you can see.

When the bit of baby bell wrapper I stuck on the end of one of the cocktail sticks matches up the red circle on the other bit. The only text you can know see is the word "on" spread across the front and back of the two structures.

Things I have found:

Found this artist whilst doing research for my home page computer thing when I was going to make it out of paper.

Also found this guy Junior Jacquet whilst doing the paper sculpture stuff.

Don't know who these are by, but they are so good. Loads of sculptures all made out of paper.

Home Page on Location (In progress)

The research part of this task seemed easy enough and fairly straight forward. I picked, musical (wizard of oz), film noir (the big combo) and sci-fi (Close encounters of the third kind) as my genres (films).

Photographing my computer on location was more of a challenge as I did not understand what exactly I was meant to do, even after it was explained to the group as a whole. Further reading of the brief and discussion with my peers proved no help.

I have taken some photos but I am unsure if I working along the right lines.

Stuff i did photo map

I had no idea how to design this at first, due to the fact my photos were so poor (I have been using my mobile phone to take photos) and my printer barely manages to print anything.

My initial ideas were:

Pop-Up book with sign posts that popped up with the names and photo of each place.

Cube covered in names of places and photos.

Pop-Up book with buildingish models inside that represented the various buildings of the campus.

Russian doll idea, box with smaller boxes inside it each with photos and information on.

I settled on the idea of using several cubes and creating a map over the top face of all of them and then displaying photos and information on the sides. The boxes then fit inside a box which has a key and when put together form the map of the campus MMU use.

Stuff I did summer project

My original idea was to use paper but, through my research, attempts to manipulate the material for my ideas and then creation of my final piece, I discovered it wasn't really working out.

The idea for my 2nd attempt came out of a discussion about what materials I had at home that were in abundance = lego.

I decided to just attempt to make it without having any real sort of plan and managed to create a fairly convincing monitor, mouse and keyboard I hope.
